SXSW 2012 Detailed Outline Day 5

Day Five
Sunday, March 18, 2012

-Finally…found a taxi at 2:30am or 3am took us back to Pete and Lisa’s to pack.

My Review and Comments:

Damn the taxi system in Austin.

-Same taxi picked us up at 4 a.m. to go to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

-Gift shop at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

-Breakfast at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

-Arrived at the Lexington Airport and Mary’s sister picked us up

-Somewhat unpacked and relaxed in my apartment

-WRFL Director’s Meeting took minutes of the meeting and talked about how SXSW was flippin’ awesome

-I got sick later that night and Tuesday I went to the University of Kentucky’s student clinic and I was diagnosed with Laryngitis and maybe a virus. The doctor wasn’t really for sure if I had a virus, but she gave me a prescription for cough syrup, a smile and a pat on the back.

Long story, short...I love Texas music and Texas in general. A friend/co-worker of mine told me about SXSW and suggested that I look into getting a press pass to write news articles. I'm a DJ and the office manager at WRFL, 88.1 FM, and through WRFL, along with the WRFL concert director we're going to SXSW on press passes. YEAH :-) (Thanks to the help of many cool people and especially our awesome WRFL media adviser.) This will be my first time to SXSW, my first time out west, my first time to Texas, my first time flying on an airplane, my first time attending a music festival and many more first time anything and everything to come. What Is SXSW?

South by Southwest (SXSW) is a music conference and festival. It was first held in 1987 in Austin, Texas. Austin has an eclectic music scene that includes blues, country, folk, jazz and rock. Central Austin claims to have more original music nightclubs in a concentrated area than any other city in the world. SXSW was created because even though Austin was a diverse and thriving music city, Austin musicians still struggled due to being isolated in the middle of Texas. SXSW was a way for musicians to reach out and bring people together to do business. National and international interest from music businesses began in the first two years of SXSW's creation. In 1994, SXSW added a film and interactive component. SXSW's goal is to crate an event that acts as tool for creative people and the companies they work with to develop careers to bring together people from a wide area to meet and share ideas, whether it's in music, film or internet.
